Your Lemonade Stand

Remember having your own lemonade stand? I do, it was on the corner of Jamacha and Porter. All my pennies and nickels were well spent on candy at Benny's Market, a hundred or two bicycle peddles away from home!

This lemon drink has definitely evolved and can be simply made for your child's corner stand, your next bar-be-que or Bunco party!

Making Lemonade is another great lens with more recipes and links!

Some History

from Bridgeport Lemonade

  • About one fourth of the world's lemons are grown in the United States, mostly in California.
  • Lemonade is believed to have been invented in Egypt over 1,500 years ago.
  • Lemon trees were grown as ornamental trees in Mediterranean gardens.
  • Lemons are originally from northern India. The name means "golden apple".
  • Lemonade originally started as a lemon and honey wine, drank primarily by peasants.
  • A lemon tree may bear as many as 3,000 lemons annually.
  • Most lemons ripen naturally in autumn and winter.

Sparking the Entrepreneurial Spirit

A Perfect Venture

Loads of fun AND a great learning experience. You will love having the opportunity to encourage your child. Your child will love being the owner of a 'store'! Win--->Win!

Skills Learned:
~Math and saving money
~Pride of ownership
~Independence
~Dealing with people

Kid Alert Safety Sign

This safety signal would be perfect placed in the yard or driveway to heighten driver awareness that children are present. A plus for your lemonade stand because when they slow down, they will most likely stop to buy a glass! :-)

Bonus: The sign is neon colored with reflector tape.

Ideas For a Perfect Lemonade Stand

  1. Relax and make this a fun venture, you stress and they will get cranky. Been there done that!

  2. Have the children donate a portion of the earnings to a charity of choice, then split the remaining 50/50...savings/a special treat. Also take a look at info about Alex's Lemonade Stand on this page

  3. Make sure to discuss the importance of hygiene and monitor the stand on the day of the sale. You wouldn't want the little stinkers serving up a cool glass of lemonade with a frog in one hand :)

  4. Get press coverage for the day of the sale by calling the local newspaper or news station. Most appreciate covering stories of this nature.

  5. Great question to pose in the planning phase: If you are going to make 'X' amount glasses of lemonade, what supplies do you need? Let them make the list, you review it, and together go shopping for supplies. Costco, Dollar Store, and Grocer Outlets give you the best bang for your buck!

  6. Consider doing this more then once, especially if you all enjoyed it!

Amazing!

Alex and the Amazing Lemonade StandInspirational!!

In 2000, a 4 year old cancer patient named Alexandra "Alex" Scott announced a seemingly simple idea -she was holding a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for kids with cancer. The idea was put into action by Alex and her older brother, Patrick, when they set up the first "Alex's Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer" on their front lawn in July of 2000.
